Telescope and stars

Aletheia (from Greek ἀλήθεια)- disclosure, truth, unhidden, evident

Usually, an observatory looks up toward the heavens–to the stars and the planets in the vastness of space.

In his Confessions, the Doctor of the Church, St. Augustine of Hippo, notes,

Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.

For me, people are just as interesting–in some cases, even more interesting–than anything that might lie out there in space.

Our observatories look outward. What if we turned them to ourselves?
